  1. Add ham and tomato and capsicum? Ooh, and pesto as a spread! Or garlic butter and leftover spaghetti and cheese.. Peanut butter and banana?
  2. I like to wait til I cook it, but its still hot and put a slice of tomato and some salt between the bread. Also try provolone or mozzarella cheese.
  3. add a couple slices of ham or turkey with swiss cheese
  4. The key to a really great grilled cheese sandwich is not what you add to it, but the type of bread and the type of cheese you use. For instance, my all time favorite is Jewish rye with sharp cheddar. I am also very fond of pumpernickel and Swiss and sour dough bread with Colby jack. Trust me, if you are a true grilled cheese lover, you will appreciate how well these flavors blend. The simpler the ingredients, the tastier the sandwich!! OOPS!! I almost forgot another one... Lightly sprinkle a little garlic salt on both sides of lightly buttered bread. Add mozzarella cheese and grill. It's a little like garlic cheese bread. And if you like...you can dip it in pizza sauce you warm up in the microwave.
  5. On seeded rye with ham, am cheese and tomato
  6. chedder cheese, sliced dill pickles on whole grain bread
  7. I just tried this one out the other day... It's awesome, I swear... http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_36203,00.html
  8. Not much to a grilled cheese really. But if you want to kick up a bit, try a premium bread and a blend of real cheeses instead of slices. Rye bread and Mozzarella is good. cheddar and swiss on french bread is also good. I've also tried Gouda. it was good, but I think it could have used another cheese to set it off, maybe a sprinkle of parmesan. Good luck.
  9. Add a couple slices of salami or pepperoni and jalapeno for a kick.
  10. i know this sounds gross but try it on cinnamon bread its soo good! prefect combination of sweet and cheesy! be brave you will love it!
  11. Two slices sourdough or Jewish rye bread Provolone and Monterey Jack cheese Portobello Mushrooms Sliced Roma tomato Place the veggies "inside" cheese slices inside the bread so that the cheese melt around them. Butter both sides of the sandwich (use real butter). Grill in cast iron skillet coated with non-stick cooking spray. DELICIOUS!!!!
  12. anything you can put between bread can be grilled. My kids love ham and cheese grilled on garlic bread, turkey tomato and Swiss on rye, or how about raisin bread bacon mozzarella and turkey. These are only a few of the great grilled sandwiches that can be made at home. I have also made the famous grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches Elvis loved so much. I'm sure there are more but these are ones I'm familiar with.
  13. Grilled Cheese Sandwiches: Difficulty: Easy Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 20 minutes Yield: 4 servings 8 (1/2-inch thick) slices country-style sourdough bread 12 ounces Monterey jack, farmhouse Cheddar, Gruyere, or imported Swiss cheese, thinly sliced 4 tablespoons unsalted butter Ad-ins--choose one: 8 slices smoked bacon, cooked and broken into 1-inch pieces, 2 vine-ripened tomatoes, sliced, and drained on paper towels for 5 minutes, or 8 slices baked ham Heat a large skillet over medium-low heat. Place 4 slices of bread on a cutting board and generously butter the top sides of each slice. Melt another tablespoon of the butter in the skillet; swirl around to coat the pan. Lay 2 slices of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet. Put a few slices of the cheese on the bread. Lay the bacon, tomato, or ham on top of the cheese. Cover with a few more slices of cheese. Top with 2 of the remaining slices of bread, placed buttered-side up. Cook, without pressing, until the bread browns and the cheese is slightly melted, about 5 minutes. Turn the sandwiches with a spatula and add a small hazelnut-size piece of butter to the pan. Cook slowly, adjusting the heat as needed to melt the cheese completely before the sandwiches are brown, about 3 to 4 minutes more. Repeat with the other 2 sandwiches. Serve.
  14. add onions and tomatoes and use gouda or swiss cheeses instead of american cheese. it's really good on everything bagels!
  15. its so good with turkey or ham. A little bit of mayo, or tomato, or pickles even. Or different types of cheese. there are so many possibilities! =]
  16. I use american cheese and grill it on texas toast. and dip it in cream of tomato soup.
  17. Don't Knock this if you haven't tried it. Just spread one slice with Vegemite. Add some thinly sliced onion. It is milder than Marmite and makes a wonderful sweetish taste
