The best Tomato Soup recipe?
I have only eaten the Cambells Tomato Cream Soup.... is there a home recipe that is better? Why is it standard to eat it with grilled cheese sandwich?

- Below is my recipe for homemade Tomato Soup for 2. You can double or triple the recipe quite easily : ) I think a lot of folks like it with grilled cheese is that it complements the ingredients. The tomatoes are the vegetables, cheese for protein, bread for starch. - I don't even consider Campbells Tomato soup real soup. YES!! There is MUCH BETTER TOMATO SOUP...try it homemade. I assume because they just go together well...like beans and franks...it just started to become a standard. In the meantime...here's a GREAT recipe for TOMATO BASIL SOUP INGREDIENTS 4 tomatoes - peeled, seeded and diced 4 cups tomato juice 14 leaves fresh basil 1 cup heavy whipping cream 1/2 cup butter salt and pepper to taste DIRECTIONS Place tomatoes and juice in a stock pot over medium heat. Simmer for 30 minutes. Puree the tomato mixture along with the basil leaves, and return the puree to the stock pot. Place the pot over medium heat, and stir in the heavy cream and butter. Season with salt and pepper. Heat, stirring until the butter is melted. Do not boil.
