Young graduate (26) learning to cook!!?
I graduated from university 2 years ago and have never learned to cook properly. I can make eggs if I'm lucky and a grilled cheese sandwich - yes, I'm kinda sad/pathetic. I'm looking to learn to cook realistic food. Not too fattening of course but realistic food like meat and potatoes type food. I'm not into two pieces of asparagus and tofu so please give me real recipes/advice every new professional straight out of college can use :) Unfortunately, I am lactose intolerant so I kinda try to stay away from too much dairy but a little is ok. Thanks! :))

- Cooking is easy, you just go to a book store and pick out a Betty Crocker cook book, they spell out everything you need to know from soup to nuts. They make it very easy to follow so don't be intimidated. They also put a list of substitute ingredients. I will modify the spices to suit my taste but they are quite good as they are. Bon appetite
- goto http://www.foodnetwork.com/ they have TONS of ideas on what to make and step by step instructions on how to cook your food. This site has great ideas when it comes to wanting to entertain your friends when you have company over. Paula Dean is more of a Southern Home cooking, Rachel Ray is more of a quick fix throw everything together type, what's nice about this site that it gives you a "rating" on how easy the recipe is, so if you don't feel comfortable cooking something huge they have smaller simple things you can put together.. Sandra Lee is okay, I think she's a nut case, with her phrase "Great and SIMPLE, course I think she's too busy drinking away on her show.. LOL" Have fun cooking and don't be afraid to taste new things, you'd be surprised on what you'd like.
- I'm lactose intoleranct too, so I know your pain. One thing you could try is like, satee (melt butter and oil in a pan) onions, carrotts, celery, and peppers(bell) in a pan. Then add 1 can of drained tuna. Add 1/2 can sliced olives (if u like them). Cook til everyting is warm. Add 2 cups of you're favorite pasta. Enjoy!
- You might want to look into getting a cook book. I was at Walden's book store the other day and saw a book called "Simple Cooking". I looked through it and there were some very easy recipes and step by step instructions. Good luck.
