Is a George Foreman Grill really that great of an investment?
I am on a diet, strict one at that, complete with a personal trainer 5 days a week. I would really like an easier way to make food that I actually like (short of cereal, protein bars, and salads) and I have heard lots of people claim the GF is spectacular, but I was on the receiving end of some food cooked on one many years ago, and it was beyond inedible. I'm thinking grilled zucchini, chicken, sandwich/panini, etc. Also, and good, easy recipe sites would be awesome.

- It's fine, just turns all meat gray. But for the things you want, it works well and gets rid of a lot of the grease.
- George Foreman grills are a pretty solid investment, especially if you're on a diet Good food and good times
- My sister cooks almost exclusively on her George Forman grill. Her goal is low fat food in under 15 minutes, lol. She swears by thick sliced sweet potatoes on that grill, along with nearly any meat. just cube it up and plop it on. I think it would work well for you.
- I think I've used mine twice since we received it years ago for a gift. It's just as easy to pull out a pan and cook things in...and they don't get dry as easily. They do make nifty paninis though:)
- it's good if you're in college and don't have alot of space. It's also nice if you're on a diet. Be careful not to overcook stuff though.
- I think so. I don't have one of the expensive ones, just the original one. They cook fast and healthy. I use it for chicken and ground beef patties and I grill onions at the same time on the grill.
- Personally, I wouldn't buy one. I've had to use them for clients, but I sure as heck won't eat food off of them. An outdoor grill is much better. Any cooking site will have simple, as well as complicated recipes. foodnetwork.com lets you know the cooking level of a recipe, i.e.: easy, intermediate, etc... before you even open the recipe up. allrecipes.com also has plenty of simple recipes.
- Yes, for quick healthy meals....especially given your diet and training. It is quick, simple and for things like chicken breast, turkey burgers and other lean cuts of meat, the cooking process (both sides of the meat) is fast and does not dry out the foods you cook. Good investment. And it does make great panini's.
- NO!
- I got one from my brother who bought something better and passed his on to me. There are better grills out there. The GF you cannot control the temperature, and if you are grilling something thick (like a chicken breast) it usually gets pretty burnt on the outside before getting cooked on the inside. Also the GF is also a pain to clean since the parts don't come off and of course, you cannot submerge the entire grill in water. The grease tray is also a separate, loose part and I have had a few accidents knocking it off from the spill zone and getting grease all over the place! There are better ones out there..look for temperature control, removable grill plates and an attached grease tray!
- yes i do believe it.......just watch all the grease flow down to the bottom
- its more of like an iron. and makes the meat come out extremly dry, and if your not carefull it burns it. i dont like mine.
- Ask your trainer their opinion on using one to prepare meals.
- Mine is gathering dust. I have the small grill, no temperature control. Meat is too dry when finished, onions and veggies burn because it cooks too fast. I thought it would caramelize onions!!! However, my teenage godson loves to cook a pound of bacon, sausages and hot dogs on their family sized George. Buy a grill pan to use on the stove. There are other grills available. A friend has another brand with temp. control, hinged lid and different inserts and she loves it.
- The food you had in the past was probably so bad becuase it was overcooked. The GF cooks form both top and bottom therefore cutting cooking time down immensly, so it is very easy to over cook. They are pretty good, cook fast, and keep it out of the fat. I think they are worth it.
- It is okay but I get tired of dragging it in and out of my cabinet so rather not be bothered with it. The grill outside is nice to use this time of year and I have a toaster over that has a broiler and a confection oven so I use that a lot. I just bought a new set of Cookware from Costco and it is non-stick and you do not need to use oil in them so works so great for a diet. There is tons of way to cook chicken and keep it healthy. Just search some of the diet sites for ideas in cooking recipes. My mind went blank as to the site I have been finding much on.
